Part of the A47 was closed in both directions after a lorry had shed its load of onions.
The major road saw heavy delays around Little Fransham, between Swaffham and Dereham, with the lorry thought to have been travelling on the King's Lynn-bound carriageway.
Police were called to the scene at 9.51am after the lorry shed its eye-watering load.
A spokesman from the Highways department told us: "There was approximately 30 tonnes of onions."
After contractors were hired the load was cleared and the road reopened.
An eye witness said: "The lorry was heading towards Kings Lynn in Little Fransham," with "onions all over the road."
They later said the tailbacks were "3 miles heading towards Kings Lynn from Dereham."
