Dereham Town’s hopes of ending a winless four-game streak were ended by an injury-time equaliser at Aldiss Park.

The Magpies led 2-0 and then 3-1, but were denied a valuable victory.

The game had started well for Dereham – although Barking missed a good chance in the seventh minute when Dan Gilchrist headed over from point blank range, the hosts opened the scoring two minutes later.

Sam Garner and Danny Beaumont combined well to set Joe Gatting free. The striker’s shot was saved by keeper Ollie Bowers, but he pulled the rebound back to Ashley Jarvis who tapped home from close range in the ninth minute.

The Magpies were passing fluently and playing good football, but keeper Elliot Pride had to race off his line to claim from the feet of Knight and then stopped the same player after Alan Taylor had played him in.

The Magpies then made it 2-0 with a well-worked goal; Beaumont chipped the ball into the path of Rhys Logan who travelled to the byline before crossing to Jarvis who netted his second in the 26th minute.

Beaumont then fired wide as Dereham continued to dominate, although Pride twice denied Gilchrist as Barking looked to reduce the deficit before the break.

Barking did pull one back after the restart when Taylor netted from close range after Knight’s effort hit the bar. Within minutes Dereham restored their two-goal cushion after Jarvis curled a lovely ball in to the path of Gatting who progressed before coolly beating the advancing keeper with a classy finish in the 48th minute.

Once again Barking battled back and in the 54th minute Jay Knight cut inside from the right and fired into the corner of Pride’s net.

The game was now open with chances at both ends, but it was the visitors who had the final say as Goldy Capella rose well in the crowded box to head home Theo Ola’s cross for the equaliser.
