Norwich City boss Neil Adams insisted there was nothing sinister in the omissions of Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Seb Bassong for the opening 1-0 pre-season win at Dereham, secured by new summer recruit Kyle Lafferty.

Bassong was part of the development squad who travelled to Boston United and club-record signing van Wolfswinkel trained on Saturday morning along with Republic of Ireland duo Wes Hoolahan and Anthony Pilkington, Martin Olsson and Mark Bunn.

The Dutch striker did not train on Friday but along with the rest of his weekend training partners is expected to be involved in Tuesday's friendly trip to Braintree. Adams revealed Bassong's involvement during the week will hinge on how he has fared at the Pilgrims.

'I'll wait for the report from Paul Nevin and depending on that we'll see if he is involved at Braintree but Ricky will be involved,' he said. 'There are a few who trained today. Ricky didn't train yesterday but he has worked today with Martin Olsson, Wes Hoolahan, Pilkington and Mark Bunn and they will all be involved on Tuesday night providing they are okay. Seb has trained and played in the development squad at Boston so we have to see how he has gone.'

Adams also made it clear there have been no acceptable transfer bids for any of his current squad with Nathan Redmond and Gary Hooper both touted with possible exits during recent days.

'Nothing to report at present. There are a lot of feelers out there and we are looking to strengthen all positions. What we also have to be prepared for is if there are any outgoings. It is not just about bringing players in,' he said. 'We are aware there are clubs sniffing around players and we have to be ready. I want to add to the squad. There has been no bids or enquiries we have where we would want to let players out. It has to be the right money and we have to make sure if it happens we are not caught napping.'

Adams' new summer signing Lafferty made his mark with a late close range winner.

'I think everyone could see how hard he worked. He got his goal as a reward and perhaps we could have used his height a little bit more,' said Adams. 'You saw with the goal when Michael Turner nodded it back and he was there on hand. He has that presence and that is why we brought him in. He works hard, he gives us that aerial threat and he can be a nuisance to defenders. I said that about Grant Holt, even when he might not be playing well the opposition knew he was about. One thing you'll find with Kyle he will keep at it and if he makes a mistake or misses a chance he will say give it me again. I love that attitude in players.

'The pitch was a bit sticky. Of course you want to win games even though that is not the most important thing at this stage. We had plenty of chances and you have to take them but generally we dominated the use of the ball and it drifted off towards the latter period of the game.'
