A programme that gives young people valuable work experience has found a new home and is now set to return.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service still has places available for young people aged 16 to 25 on their free Prince’s Trust Team programme starting on May 22.
The course was due to be held in January, but planned works on the town’s fire station meant it had to be postponed.
The 12-week personal development programme is being run from Dereham Town Football Club.
One programme graduate said: “Honestly, I think the biggest achievement I have gained for myself during the team programme is becoming mentally healthier it sounds really stupid but this programme over the 12 weeks has helped my mental health improve immaculately not only from just doing something other than lying in bed but the socialisation with people again and having a routine that I hadn't had in about six months has made me realise socialisation and routine is key to get better.”
The programme includes lots of activities and experiences including a free week-long team-building residential trip and activities with Norfolk Fire and Rescue Fire Fighters.
Everyone who joins the team can get themselves a qualification in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills and a certificate in Emergency First Aid at Work.
The course also helps learners prepare for their future whether that means CV writing, interview skills and work experience to get a job, or researching training and education to get that career moving. Or simply just bringing people together to have fun and do something different.
The Team programme is free, does not affect any benefits that someone may be receiving, and transport costs can be reimbursed.
Anyone interested in joining should phone leaders Chantelle and Scott on 07795 067383, more info at www.norfolk.gov.uk/nfrsyouth
