It will look like a scene from Game of Thrones but there is no fantasy here as an incredible dragon is set to reside in Dereham.
It won’t be guarding gold though, it will be protecting an art gallery.
Matt Darge, a chainsaw artist and owner of Norski Noos Gallery, Andy Sullivan have joined forces to bring a 10-foot, two-ton dragon made from spalted beech wood to watch over the Dereham business.
Mr Darge, who creates wooden sculptures with his trusty chainsaw, has undertaken the mammoth three-month project alongside Mr Sullivan as the pair looked for something to attract the punters to check out the Nunns Way business.
Mr Darge said: “I wanted to do something for me. I’m so excited to see it finally completed and outside in all its glory.
"It will mark a major milestone in my carving career.
“It's been about nine full days, spending eight hours a time on it, with another two days before it is completed.”
If someone is so captivated by the statue, they can have it - but the price is almost as big as the beast, costing £10,000.
It isn't just a pretty picture, as a smoke generator has been plumbed into the creature, to replicate its iconic trait.
“We were thinking what can we do, something to really grab the attention, so why don’t we do a dragon,” the gallery owner added.
“We had to decide how big we’d do it, then we decided to do it as a colossal.
“We didn’t want a dragon on a table, we wanted a statement, something that needs to be admired for some time, rather than a passing glance.”
The fantasy statue is set to be installed outside the gallery on June 1 at 10am, as a crane will put it in position.
