Countless pieces of packaging and even a “fairly new” pair of men’s sliders were among the objects found on the streets when the Dereham Runners Athletics Club took part in a litter pick.
People in the club and some family members joined the Dereham Community Litter Pickers for the clean-up, which netted 27kgs of rubbish from areas such as the Rec, Norwich Road, near the Memorial Hall, Fleece Meadow and South Green Gardens.
Mandie Thorpe, from the club, said: “We first did one last year, as we wanted to give something back to the community. We now want to make it an annual event or even more often, if we can.
“It’s amazing what you can find in just an hour. Our best find was a fairly new-looking pair of men’s sliders.
“We had some underpants last year, a pair of pliers - why they got chucked I’m not sure - and some other odd things.”
The community litter pickers group welcomes people of all ages and abilities. Anyone interested in joining finding out more can join the group’s Facebook page or email Derehamlitterpickers@gmail.com.
