A raw pet food company in Dereham has expanded after only ten months since opening its doors.

Caroline's Holistic Canines (CHC), run by husband-and-wife duo Cy and Caroline Edmondson, provides natural, species-specific diet products for cats and dogs, as well as dietary advice for their owners.

Mr Edmondson, 50, started the business with his wife of seven years, in August in a 12-metre-squared egg shed at Holly Farm on Mattishall Road.

Business has been excellent for the company, so much so that it now operates out a 144-square-metre building on the same premises.

Mrs Edmondson, who is a 47-year-old canine nutritionist, explained the couple has not invested any personal money, "and the business is paying for itself."

Although Essex born, Mr Edmondson grew up and established a career in business development in South Africa.

He also experienced life-altering circumstances when a rare disease made him a paraplegic at the age of 17.

Unphased by the hardship, the couple is now fulfilling their dreams in a joint venture based on the benefits of "prey model raw" food.

Some of CHC's products include rabbit and goat ears, beef udders and chicken feet, acquired from supplier brands.

"Sometimes clients bring their dogs to see us, and we have to close the door because they let them off the lead and they think they're in the sweet shop," said Mr Edmondson.

Outside of their passion for pooches, the couple also have eight children, 12 parrots and four dogs.

"Our lives are hectic, but as a family, we pull together really well, and running a business as a couple hasn't affected us at all," said Mrs Edmondson.

Mr Edmondson said: "Our next target is to start paying ourselves a salary. It's exciting, but we'll see where it goes."
