George Freeman has dubbed his win as "extraordinary" after the Conservative MP retained his seat in Mid Norfolk for a fifth term.

Mr Freeman beat Labour candidate, Michael Rosen, by 3,054 votes.

He has held his seat in the constituency consecutively since 2010.

The result was announced five hours after votes from more than 80 polling stations in Mid Norfolk's constituency were taken into Dereham Leisure Centre.

Mr Freeman was tearful when describing how important this win was for him, and the party overall.

"This is profoundly personal," said Mr Freeman. "This is home, I live here, I grew up here, so one puts a lot of one's self out on the line, which is really vulnerable.

"On the other hand, the brutal reality is that you are just a cog in a huge machine of parties and politics around the country, which you can't control.

"And as a constituency MP, you are constantly juggling the local and the national.

Kabeer Kher, the Reform UK candidate who received 9,427 of the final votes, said he was still optimistic about the party's future in politics. "Imagine where we could be in five years' from now," he said.

Stuart Howard, Mid Norfolk's Liberal Democrat candidate, had his hopes placed in the constituency leaning towards the left. However, only 3,126 voted in his favour.

Nonetheless, Mr Howard said that although he had a lot of ground to cover in a short time, he was happy with his efforts. "I hope going forward, we continue to do more as a party, and that voting Lib Dem is no longer a protest vote."

Only 46,119 people cast their vote in a constituency of 75,238 registered voters. Of those, 16,770 voted Conservative.
