Traffic was building on the A47 after a lorry crashed with a car towing a caravan.
Police were called at around 11.25am to the A47 Dereham Bypass, Norwich bound, near the Swanton Morley turn-off.
The carriageway was blocked and traffic was at a standstill after the caravan tipped onto its side.
Two fire crews, one from Carrow and another from Earlham, were called to assist the ambulance service and made the scene safe.
A recovery crew were sent to clear the road.
Officials from highway maintenance managed the traffic flow.
Some drivers were delayed for up to an hour and a half.
