The public are being warned of road closures in a Norfolk town during the Remembrance Day Parade this weekend.

More than 300 people are expected to march through Dereham on Remembrance Sunday.

Hundreds of other people will gather in the town centre to remember the fallen.

During the event, temporary road closures will affect those who usually travel through the market place and people are being asked by the town council to plan their journeys accordingly.

Cherry Tree Car Park entrance by the Cherry Tree pub will be closed from 10am.

However the Theatre Street entrance will remain in use.

Then, from around 10.45am until midday, all roads into the market place will be closed at Swaffham Hill junction, including Quebec Road.

High Street and Norwich Street junction, and Wellington Road and Cowper Road junction, will also be closed.

Signs advising motorists to avoid the area are currently in place and traffic management personnel will be available on the day.

Groups will form up in Cherry Tree car park from 10.15am and then march from 10.48am, led by Dereham's band.

The wreath laying will be followed by a service at St Nicholas Church, which is open to members of the public.

There will also be a short service on Monday, November 11, at 11am at the town's war memorial, which has been organised by the Royal British Legion.

A spokesman for the Dereham Town Council said: "In previous years, drivers have shown their respect and voluntarily brought their vehicles to a standstill and switched their engines off while the Act of Remembrance is taking place.

"We are indebted to the Royal British Legion for their help in organising this year’s parade."

Anyone wishing to lay a wreath at the War Memorial can email the town council at generalenquiries@derehamtowncouncil.org or phone 01362 693821.
